Prosecutors handling cases against HDP’s co-chair detained in connection to coup

In a meeting held to give updates on the cases against the detained co-chair of Turkey’s HDP, lawyers stated that 10 of the prosecutors handling 28 of the 96 summaries of proceedings have been dismissed from their positions and arrested in scope of investigations into the Fethullah Gülen’s Hizmet movement’s alleged involvement in the failed coup attempt of 2016.

Lawyers also mentioned that all 29 cases against co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş are filed with accusations based on his speeches given in the parliament, at meetings and conventions, and during press briefings. Cases against Demirtaş were filed separately in provinces of Ankara, İstanbul, Mardin, Siirt, Mersin, Kayseri, Şınak, Adana and Elazığ, lawyers added.
