Turkey's democracy forces gather 'against the Sultanate' in İstanbul today

Turkey’s democracy and labor forces are gathering in İstanbul’s Kartal Square today (November 20), at 14:00, to demonstrate their objection to ‘presidential system plans; all anti-democratic regulations; and, the latest bill of the government where child abusers are suggested to be freed of punishment if they marry the victim.

Several political parties, movements, trade bodies, and democratic civil society institutions have announced that they will be participating in this major public meeting in order to unite and raise their voice against AKP further.

Campaign of ‘No to the Sultanate’

With the message of ‘there is no way to the Sultanate’, HAZİRAN movement had announced earlier on November 1st – the anniversary of annihilation of the Sultanate of Ottoman Empire – that they were launching a campaign against the AKP government’s goal to establish a presidential system.

Both CHP and HDP representatives have also announced their decision to attend the meeting in Kartal today, along with numerous institutions in support of democracy and against the current authoritarian regime.
