Turkey’s labor and democracy forces unite in the face of insisting oppression of the government

With the call of HAZİRAN movement, Turkey’s Labor and Democracy Forces, political parties, trade bodies, and civil society institutions held a meeting and took a decision to organize a major public meeting on November 20th at 14:00.
The meeting, which will be held with the message of ‘today is the day to unite against fascism, oppression, and cruelty’, will take place in İstanbul’s Kartal district.

Parts of the statement released for the public is as follows: “Our country is under the attack of political Islam and a one-man dictatorship. First, opposition newspapers and other media sources were shut-down. Then, with the detention of Cumhuriyet newspaper’s executives and columnists and the co-chairs and MPs of HDP, the situation has reached another level. And, the recent operations against civil society institutions show that these ‘decree operations under state of emergency’ will continue.
The hegemons who are afraid of the collective struggle of the laborers and the people that came about especially after the June 7th elections have sped up their policies of war both domestically and across the borders. These policies are also aimed at creating the legal ground for a presidential system. With the regime that is run through emergency decrees, steps towards establishment of a presidential system are being taken. Over 100,000 suspensions and dismissals took place in public offices. Meanwhile, the operation launched against Cemaat (Gülen community) following the July 15 coup attempt has turned into a witch-hunt…

We demand for state of emergency to be ended and for the decrees passed under state of emergency to be nullified…
AKP’s presidential palace regime leads an absolutely sectarian policy both in the country and the region. Instead of defending the common interests and lives of the Syrian people, AKP government has deepened the conflict by giving support to Salafist-Jihadist gangs. At the same time, it has hardened the neo-Ottoman sentiments within the country through historical anecdotes. It has created enmity towards Kurdish and Alevi people through its Turkish-Islamist-Sunni policies…On the other hand, a social engineering is at place through policies that infuse religion into education system…

What is being tried to establish is a ‘Palace Dictatorship’. However, as millions of people in Turkey, we are not going to given in to these attacks.

It is crucial for all parts of the society that are bothered by AKP’s Palace Regime to come together in order to stand against this one-man dictatorship which is obsessed with a presidential system.

Our call is to all progressive and socialist laborers and true patriots of this country: today is the day to fight together against fascism, oppression, and cruelty. To unite against dictatorship and presidential system!

We are definitely going to win!
