Die Welt’s detained reporter Yücel: 'Support Turkey's BirGün, Cumhuriyet, and Evrensel newspapers'

İstanbul correspondent of Germany’s Die Welt, Deniz Yücel, has sent a message, through his lawyers, from Silivri prison where he is jailed over accusations of ties to terror.

Having been allowed to be visited by German officials for the first time since his detention earlier in February, Yücel said he is doing well, also expressing concerns over his imprisonment based on political purposes and the ‘strain he feels due to being held in solitary confinement.’

Yücel also called on his co-workers and colleagues in Germany to subscribe to and be in solidarity with ‘BirGün, Evrensel, and Cumhuriyet newspapers, Turkey’s few remaining independent news sources.’
