6 suspects of ISIL’s suicide bomb attack at Sultanahmet released

Second hearing for the case of ISIL’s suicide bomb attack at İstanbul’s Sultanahmet Square on January 12th was held yesterday in İstanbul 14th Heavy Penal Court. While 13 arrested suspects were brought to court, testimonies of 5 other suspects – including Muhammet Handavi - were heard through audio and video systems connected from Gaziantep Immigration Office, where the 5 suspects, who have been tried without arrest, reported to. Sibel Şatıroğlu, the tourist guide who had also got wounded during the attack, attended the hearing as a complainant.

Suspects testifying from Antep without arrest – Mulham Almunkkel, Feras Douro, Majed Al Masrı and İbrahim Lutfi – denied the accusations.

Suspects Ahmad Darviş, Ali Alibrahem, Ehab Haidar, Omran Alibrahem, Zafer Alshal and Zekeriya Derviş were discharged with the reason of ‘possibility of a change of the nature of the offence’ and based on their time spent under arrest. Released suspects have also been banned from traveling abroad. Additionally, court also ruled for hearing the person named Lokman, whose name appears in the phone records of suspect Ahmad Darviş.

While suspects Abdulrahman Faaiz Rashif Rashid, Atala Elhasan, Ayad Muner Saud Saud, Fevzi Muhammed Ali, Halil Derviş, Mohammed Khaled Hawaslı and Omar Hallım Raheem Raheem are going to remain arrested, the court set the date of the next hearing as December 1.
