AKP members worried about idea of 'substitute MPs'

While AKP and MHP continue on drafting their proposal for the constitutional amendments, some of the terms agreed on have caused some other AKP members to worry.

According to the draft proposal, there will be ‘substitute parliamentarians’, who will replace the MPs in case - including death - of inability to fulfill the obligations of the duty, an article which led some AKP members to warn it could even 'cause cases of murders' just to gain seat.

Since the parliamentarians’ roles will already have been minimized under the proposed ‘presidential system’, designation of substitute parliamentarians will cause further complications, including severe rivalry, some AKP officials argued.

AKP MPs opposing the suggested regulation assert that ‘the substitutes would end up competing with the actual MPs, trying to take over the role completely’; and, that would in turn create an atmosphere of rivalry among the members of the same party.

Another term suggested in the draft constitution of AKP and MHP is the lowering of eligible age to become a parliamentarian from 25 to 18.
