Demonstrations in support of dismissed educators continue in Ankara

BirGün / Ankara

On Tuesday (June 13), a group of representatives from civil society organizations in Turkey started a sit-in in front of the F Type prison of Ankara’s Sincan, where dismissed educators Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça are being held in detention.

Though the group waited to hear news from prison officials about the health condition of the educators who have been on hunger strike for over 3 months by now, no information was given.

Meanwhile, friends and supporters of educators Gülmen and Özakça gathered in front of the Human Rights Statue in Ankara’s downtown Kızılay.

For the first time in months, the police in Kızılay did not interfere with the demonstrators who demanded Gülmen and Özakça, as well as, all others who lost their jobs unlawfully, to be returned to their positions.
