HDP Co-chairs and MPs taken into custody in Turkey

In an operation at HDP HQs and houses of HDP MPs, 11 MPs of People’s Democratic Party have been taken into custody.
Giving information about the operation from his personal Twitter account at 1:30 am, HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş said there were police officers in front of his house in Diyarbakır, trying to issue a ‘warrant of forced arrest’.

Following reports indicate that Demirtaş was taken to the Diyarbakır Police Station shortly after this message. Co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ was also taken into custody from her house.

HDP MPs in custody

While there is a warrant of arrest for several other MPs of HDP, those who have already been taken into custody during the recent midnight operations are reported to be as the following: Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Şırnak MPs Leyla Birlik and Ferhat Encü, Diyarbakır MPs Ziya Pir, Nursel Aydoğan and İdris Baluken, Mardin MPs Gülser Yıldırım and Mehmet Ali Aslan, and Hakkari MP Abdullah Zeydan.

Statement of Interior Ministry

According to the reports of state-run Anadolu Agency, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of HDP MPs in reference to lifting of immunity of parliamentarians from prosecution. As also reported, the reason for their arrest is in reference to their participation in the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), KCK, and October 6-8 incidents.

Meanwhile, Interior Ministry released a statement announcing the arrest of 11 MPs in the cities of Diyarbakır, Şırnak, Hakkari, Van, and Bingöl.
