Official titles of police officers in Turkey changed to 'promoters of peace'

In a statement recently released in Turkey’s Official Gazette (Resmi Gazete), it was announced that the definition of some police officers and their titles have been changed in the security department’s bylaws.

Accordingly, the ‘special forces unit’ of the police department will, from now on, be called as ‘security personnel on active duty in missions of special forces on promotion of peace and protection’.

Experts of bomb-dismantling will have the title of ‘security personnel on duty for services of bomb-dismantling and promotion of peace and protection.’

Officers on duty as traffic police will also be referred to as ‘police officers/security personnel on duty for promotion of peace and protection.’

The new bylaws also include the necessary changes regarding the permission granted to covered women officers to wear their head scarves as part of their uniforms.
