Over 50 cases of breach of rules in Turkey's referendum reported from abroad

Voting polls outside of Turkey were closed yesterday (April 9). Having started on March 27th, the referendum voting for a shift to presidential system in Turkey lasted for two weeks and over one million citizens of Turkey living abroad casted their votes.

In addition to a high turnout, breaches of polling rules also caught attention. According to reports of Sputnik, main opposition party CHP’s deputy chair Tekin Bingöl stated that there were 57 reported cases where rules were not followed during the first week of the voting process in foreign countries.

Bingöl said breaches involved carousel voting; ghost voting; unregistered voting; open voting; disclosing of the votes, and more.
Related offices in Turkey have been informed about the official reports of the violations and legal action will follow, said Bingöl.

Voting in Turkey is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 16th.
