Staff at a hospital in Turkey asked to submit absence excuse for not attending Erdoğan’s meeting
Head physician at İzmir’s Urla State Hospital, Adıgüzel Demirel, demanded from health professionals working in the hospital to attend President Erdoğan’s referendum campaign meeting in the city scheduled for April 9th.
Demirel also asked those who will not attend to submit an absence excuse.
According to reports of BirGün reporter Burcu Cansu, during a meeting with the staff, Demirel made the call for attendance to Erdoğan’s meeting by saying: “As you know, our president is coming to İzmir to hold a meeting on Sudnay. All staff members must attend. About 20 shuttle busses, which will be provided by the governor’s office, will leave from the hospital. Those who will not attend the meeting must submit an absence excuse.”
As a staff member told Demirel during the meeting that she/he had an exam to take on that date, Demirel replied: “Then, you are going to submit the document showing you took the exam.”
Head physician Demirel had previously made his political stance clear and ordered for ‘no’ flyers of the union of the health professionals to be taken down from the pin board in the hospital.
Some professionals in the hospital are worried about the future of their positions, according to the report.
