Turkey’s communist mayor opens two public libraries in his district

Turkey’s only communist municipality head Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu opened two public libraries at the Ovacık district of Tunceli, where he has been the local governor since the last local elections in 2014.

In addition to his prior works on producing ‘organic communist honey’, beans, chickpeas, and potato in the district, Maçoğlu has now completed a project involving opening of a public library with over 10000 books for his district that has a population of 3000, in order to encourage people of the district and the province to read further.

Stating that both of the libraries will be open for 24 hours, Maçoğlu said: “We have been elected for this position only for the purpose of serving our public and our goal is to please our people. Whoever enters our municipality building, they will first see books. Anyone wishing will be able to use either the library on the first floor or the one upstairs and borrow any books… Everyone in our district is very curious and love to do research. Education is a reflection of the people of Dersim... Young people come here very often... And many of our citizens also come after their work in order to relax while reading... Many other mindful citizens living in other parts of the country have also been sending our library additional books...”
