Turkey’s Erdoğan and PM hold a 6 hours long meeting before Supreme Military Council meeting

Before the convening of the Supreme Military Council of Turkey on August 2nd, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım met in İstanbul on Tuesday (August 1).

The meeting lasted for 6 hours.

A meeting traditionally defined as ‘very secret’, the annual convention of the Supreme Military Council used to take place at the office building of the Chief of Staff.

With the changes in the structure of the Council following the coup attempt of last summer, the meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office in Ankara’s Çankaya for the first time last year.

This year, it will also be held under the leadership of the PM in Çankaya Palace.
Members of the Council are expected to make the final decisions on new appointments and promotions within the Turkish Armed Forces.
