Turkey’s Erdoğan criticizes Israel: ‘We won't let Azaans get silenced in Jerusalem’

Speaking at a meeting of Forum of Jerusalem Foundations on Monday (May 8), Turkey’s president Erdoğan criticized the Israeli parliament for taking a step to ban Azaans, Islamic prayers read out loud from speakers, in Israel and East Jerusalem.

Defining the plan of Israel as a ‘disgrace’, Erdoğan said: “It is quite noteworthy to see that those who talk to us about freedom of religion and conscience at any opportunity have approved this step. We are not going to let Azaans be silenced in Jerusalem.”

Noting the sacredness of Jerusalem for the three Abrahamic religions, Erdoğan also called on Muslims of Turkey to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque more often.
