Turkey’s government blocks public from attending HDP’s parliamentary group meeting

Following the detention of co-chairs and 10 MPs of Turkey’s People’s Democratic Party (HDP), as well as, detention of 6 advisers of the party, this time, parliamentary group meeting of HDP has been blocked by AKP government to the entrance of an audience from the public.

Commenting on it, HDP representative Çağlar Demirel said: “As our party receives more and more attention, they (AKP officials) just don’t know what to do! And, now, they did not allow the public that came to be present at our parliamentary group meeting.”

Speaking at the meeting on behalf of his party, HDP’s Spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen said: “This is the shame of the Parliament... We have things to say; and, we dare to say them. But they (AKP officials) are afraid of even the shortest messages of our co-chairs and their posters. They go on living with the fear of our banners that say ‘do not touch my will’. The President says that ‘state of emergency is not causing a problem because everyone keeps doing their jobs.’ However, I guess the President is not aware that thousands of people have been fired from their jobs. He also says that ‘curfew in Şırnak is now lifted so people are returning their homes.’ But there are no streets or houses left in Şırnak to go to.”
