Woman MPs of Turkey's AKP assault and injure MPs of opposition

On the second day of the second round of parliamentary voting on constitutional amendments in Turkey, women MPs from CHP and HDP were attacked physically by AKP’s women MPs following a protest of independent MP Aylin Nazlıaka, who handcuffed herself to the microphone of the platform to get the attention of especially the MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) chair Devlet Bahçeli and other MHP members who are in support of AKP’s proposed constitutional changes.

As MP Nazlıaka continued her protest during the break between the sessions, AKP’s female MPs interfered to end Nazlıaka’s protest.

In a video released recently, it is observed that female MPs from AKP approach the platform in a group with the direction of AKP’s Kırıkkale MP Ramazan Can who gives a sign with his hand to them to act on. It's also reported that Interior Minister Soylu gave AKP's woman MPs the tools to use to unshackle the handcuff.

As AKP MPs assaulted MP Nazlıaka while trying to unshackle the handcuffs, an affray took place where CHP MPs Şafak Pavey and Melike Basmacı and HDP MPs Pervin Buldan and Burcu Çelik were injured in a way that led them to get treatment in the hospital.

AKP female MP Gökçen Özdoğan Enç, who had brought a ‘No Dogs Allowed’ sign to the Parliament last week in response to claims of an AKP MP where he said he had been bitten on the leg by a CHP MP, was also the MP who pushed Şafak Pavey and hit Pervin Buldan last night.

Independent MP Aylin Nazlıaka gave statements after her protest: “It is not important at all that I was assaulted physically. One person getting hurt is not so significant at the moment because 80 million people are subjected and the Republic is going down the drain. What is really sad is the fact that it was the woman parliamentarians who did this to me… I held this protest to make my voice heard by MHP MPs. I hope I reached that goal… This law package which is called as ‘constitutional amendments’ is actually a regime change and what is aimed with it is to shut down the Parliament virtually. This is why I reacted and I wanted to express my reaction by blocking the platform.”
