A hearing of the Parliamentary Commission on Coup Investigation was held yesterday (October 18) at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Taking the floor after former Interior Minister Efkan Ala, Ahmet Akgündüz from Islamic University of Rotterdam began his speech by saying ‘coup had actually been started off by Gezi.’

As CHP MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu reacted against these remarks of Akgündüz, the two began arguing. While the head of the commission Reşat Petek did not interfere at first, as the argument continued, he shouted at MP Tanrıkulu and said: “Know your place!” After this, CHP MP Tanrıkulu left the meeting room in protest.

Along with Tanrıkulu, other CHP MPs waiting outside the meeting room and HDP MP Mithat Sancar also did not attend the meeting to protest Petek and Akgündüz.

CHP MP Tanrıkulu commented on it by saying: “We could not have just watched an insane person to be allowed to just sound off like that.”
