President Erdoğan calls on people of Turkey to ‘change their foreign currency to TL’
Turkey’s President Erdoğan spoke at the opening ceremony of Ankara’s automotive trade center today (December 2). Erdoğan called on people to ‘change their foreign currencies to Turkish lira’ and ‘to invest in gold.’
Parts of the speech of Erdoğan follow as: “My dear brothers, I greet you with my most heartfelt feelings. I wish for this truly unique facility in our country – the automotive trade center – to be beneficial to our city and country. Automobiles are devices that were developed speedily following the discovery of steam by people. Having been a part of our lives for 200 years, automobiles were first luxurious but now they have become a need. As automobiles increased in numbers, accidents became frequent, too. The fight with problems ranging from environmental pollution to security has been going on and it will continue. Today, there are more than 11 automobiles and 21 types of land vehicles in our country. One fourths of these are over 20 years old. Those need to go into waste. Our reserves are getting renewed speedily and we break sale records each year… No matter what some say, Turkey is richer than it was 14 years ago… Today, it is much easier for our citizens to purchase cars. And, driving them has been made easier, too. We constructed roads totaling to 18,000 kilometers in length… Roads, railroads, airports are advanced. If you have love, you would do these everywhere! You have love, but some other have an intention to carry out a coup! Those began this path to carry out a coup. But my people demonstrated their desire and intention by going out to the squares. You (the people) are models for the world. You have proved that… May God protect this country! They have brought up this issue with foreign exchange thing, lately. They say ‘dollar is this, dollar is that.’ Whatever happens, does not matter. My dear nation, I love your for the sake of Allah. Those of you that have foreign currency under your pillows should change it to TL or gold. What the use for increasing the value of the foreign exchange? When we take these steps, the game of some will be over! These same people did the same thing in 2007, too…”
