Salah to be chanted over loudspeakers of 90K mosques across Turkey on July 15

As the government of Turkey continues its preparations for the ‘commemoration of the failed coup attempt of July 15’, it has recently been reported that Salah (Islamic prayer for funerals) will be chanted from megaphones of 90K mosques across the country on the night of July 15 this year as part of the commemoration activities.

According to a letter sent to muftis (Islamic legal experts) across the nation from the head of the Presidency of Religion Affairs (Diyanet), Prof. Mehmet Görmez, a ‘campaign for reading versus in the Koran in its entirety 100K times’ on the day of July 15 will also be launched.

On Friday (July 14), Koran reading will start at mosques, the message of the Diyanet said, adding that at 00:13 on July 16, Salahs will be chanted simultaneously over loudspeakers of 90K mosques all across Turkey.

Last year, during the bloody coup attempt – which resulted in 249 people to lose their lives-, Islamic prayers had also been chanted all throughout the night and imams at several mosques had called on people to hit to the streets to follow Erdoğan’s command.
